Our wines are made in the vineyard
Taking care of the vineyards is essencial in Viña Mambrilla. The winery has 70 hectares of vineyards in ownership in Mambrilla de Castrejón town. The variety of the grapes is 100% Tinta del País. The different plots are located between 790-850 meters above sea level. The orientation of the plots is South - Southeast, which gives them a protection of the thermal contrasts typical of the Ribera del Duero.
Our centenary vineyards are the sign of the bond of the family to the vine cultivation in the Ribera del Duero
The youngest vineyard plots range from 15 to 25 years old, on the contrary, the longer vineyards are 80 and 100 years, with a low production but of great quality dedicated to the elaboration of the most exclusive wines, but also to the creation of new vines.
Based on vine shoots of the oldest vines , Tinta del País variety , and by means of grafting , the new vineyards have been planted thus maintaining the family vineyard originally.
This practice and the care of the vineyards day to day, are carried out by the owners of the winery. The care of the vineyards are practically natural , only sulphur is used as a preventive measure against possible plague. Two pruning are made, dry pruning around the month of January and pruning in green around the month of May. As for the harvest, the bunches are picked by hand, with a previous sort through of them, due to the best will be destined to the wine making.
